neaco becomes CHAS accredited

neaco has qualified as an accredited supplier under the Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS), the market leader for Health and Safety pre-qualification in the UK.

CHAS is available to suppliers of goods and services and organisations looking for suitably competent suppliers. Companies must show compliance with important parts of Health and Safety law (the core criteria described in the CDM regulations) and on achieving compliance a supplier is approved to work for all CHAS buyers.

neaco supplies products to architects, specifiers, contractors and end users in all sectors, including commercial, industrial and residential developments, local authority projects, housing associations, care facilities and major utilities. CHAS accreditation will assist in the supply of our balustrade, balconies, structural glass, decking, walkways, cladding, solar shading and adaptive bathing applications, including level access shower grilles, easy access shower trays, wet-floor formers, half-height shower enclosures and bathroom support fittings.

neaco’s Managing Director Alan Green said: “Being CHAS-approved is an excellent achievement for neaco and will help to streamline our tendering process in securing new business, saving time and resources within the supply chain. Each month thousands of contractors and consultants apply for work with public and private sector organisations and must meet their Health and Safety standards in order to win the work.”

“Assessing Health and Safety competence is usually a lengthy and time consuming process. Suppliers can sometimes meet one buyer’s Health and Safety standards but not another’s. Being CHAS-approved reduces duplication as suppliers and compliance is accepted by all CHAS buyers.”

CHAS has founder member status with the Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSIP) competence forum and is reliant upon continued annual accreditation by an Independent SSIP-appointed Auditor who in turn, has been approved by the Health & Safety Executive.  CHAS is also audited annually by the UKAS accredited certification body BM TRADA Certification to both the ISO9001 and ISO14001 standards.

neaco metal mesh provides extensive cladding at £6.3 million substation development

neaco’s Techdek metal mesh system is extensively featured as cladding at a £6.3 million development in Finnieston, Glasgow, which provides a new 132/33kV substation on behalf of Scottish Power Energy Networks.

Designed by Dane Architectural and built by Miller Construction, the new 1,500-square-metre facility off Argyle Street is serving as a secure electricity supply for Scottish Power Energy Networks’ new development and organic growth within the west of Glasgow. Techdek metal mesh cladding covers a large proportion of the substation building, which is approximately 80m in length and 16m in width.

Mark Benson of Dane Architectural said: “We wanted an aesthetically pleasing façade and neaco’s product was the most visually impressive and commercially viable choice. The completed installation looks very smart and neaco’s technical support was excellent. They were very flexible in providing a design solution which accommodated the structural demands of the building and we would definitely work with neaco again in future projects of this type.”

In addition to being ideal for cladding and screening, Techdek’s metal mesh systems are suitable for a multitude of alternative applications, including decking, ventilation, bridge cycle and pedestrian ways, flooring, staging, balustrade infills and stair treads. Lightweight yet strong and durable, the aluminium system has a patented swage-locked construction between bars which enables high structural efficiency. It is also 100 per cent recyclable and easy to install with low-energy construction methods. A range of profiles are available, including T-bar grilles, flat-bar grilles and dual-purpose sunshade/walkways with louvre extrusions. Solar shading grilles significantly reduce the net heat gain (commonly in the order of 20-40%) of sunlight striking tinted or clear windows and can easily adapt to specific design requirements.

neaco’s diverse product range also includes modular handrail and balustrade systems, Juliet balconies, step-out balconies, structural glass and inclusive bathing facilities. All products are backed by a class-leading Lifetime Guarantee.

Stirling work! Clearview glass balconies take on new film role

As the name would suggest, neaco’s Clearview glass Juliet balconies are renowned for providing an unobstructed outlook, but an office conversion project at Stirling House in Northampton required the opposite effect with a bespoke specification incorporating an orange privacy film on the toughened glass panels.

The design by GSSArchitecture brings eye-catching colour to Clearview’s minimalist aesthetic, producing an attractive contemporary façade for the three-storey former offices at Cliftonville Road, which have been transformed into a new 14,000 sq ft annex to Abington Vale Primary School. Northamptonshire County Council bought Stirling House for £1.6m last year to address a shortage of primary pupil places and the completed conversion accepted its first intake of pupils in September.

Ben Asbury of GSSArchitecture said: “We chose neaco’s Juliet balconies largely due to their elegant, clean and contemporary finish with a high level of transparency. The bespoke fixings required for our installation have worked very neatly and we are pleased with the results.”

neaco’s Managing Director, Alan Green, said: “Our Clearview Juliet balconies have become a very popular alternative to heavily railed Juliet balconies and one of their best attributes is their ability to allow maximum sunlight penetration. Some projects feature the addition of bespoke etching or film on our glass panels and the Stirling House conversion is an unusual example of this as the film covers the whole panel. This particular film still allows excellent sunlight penetration.”

neaco’s range of handrails, balustrade and balconies includes Clearview walk-on balconies with aluminium open grille flooring and the Classic Juliet balcony which provides a more traditional railed design as an alternative to the contemporary looks of Clearview Juliet balconies. All neaco products come with a class-leading Lifetime Guarantee and ourhandrails, balustrades and balconies are now available on the National BIM Library at www.nationalbimlibrary.com/NEACO
