York High School

Neaco recently completed a bespoke product modification for the particular demands of educational architecture when their Spectrum balustrade systems were specified for a new facility at York High School.

The Project

Architects at the City of York Council worked closely with Neaco to develop a design for a balustrade with a tinted glass infill on a stairway and mezzanine floor overlooking a ground-floor library. The result was a hybrid installation combining standard elements of Spectrum with features from a related product, Neaco’s Elan system.

Alan Thomas of the City of York Council Property Services explained to us that the mezzanine level is a designated IT area with computers and furniture right up against the balustrade, so they needed to set the design at 1300mm high for increased safety.

The Product

Neaco’s Elan Balustrade system has no gap underneath the glass infill to prevent objects from being kicked off the edge and onto the library area, so York High School’s balustrade incorporated a floor channel to accommodate the glass, which is a standard feature of our Elan system.

Requiring no welding for assembly, Spectrum’s versatile modular systems have the capacity to meet virtually any design permutation or installation requirement. This particular system is available in satin polished stainless steel or aluminium in a wide range of solid or metallic colours. The glass aesthetics are also up to you, we have clear, tinted, etched and even heat soaking as an extra layer of protection.
